10 Simple and Effective Tips for Becoming a Better Entrepreneur

By | ENTREPRENEURS | No Comments

Have you wondered why, in spite of your best efforts, you just can’t drive results?

What is it that other Entrepreneurs do that makes them so effective? Are they better leaders? Are they willing to take more risks? Or is it sheer luck? And, most importantly, is it possible to replicate the system or is it entirely unpredictable?
Being a successful Entrepreneur isn’t always intuitive. It requires a unique set of skills built over time and the capacity to learn new behaviours.
Here’s a look at 10 habits shared by the most successful Entrepreneurs:

1. Solve Problems by Listening
Highly efficient entrepreneurs understand the value of genuine listening. They know that, in order to build relationships, solve problems, innovate and improve themselves and their businesses, they need to listen first and talk after.

2. Learn to Say No
When Guy Spier had lunch with billionaire Warren Buffet, he asked to see his agenda. Surprisingly, it was almost empty. “You’ve got to keep control of your time and you can’t unless you say no. You can’t let people set your agenda in life” said Buffett.

3. Perfection is Unobtainable
Naturally, striving to achieve excellency isn’t a bad thing, but postponing an action just because it didn’t satisfy your unrealistically high expectations is a dangerous behaviour. Successful entrepreneurs know that perfection is a myth, an unobtainable concept. So, instead of chasing a chimera, they focus on actually doing something.

4. Take Risks, but Don’t Bet the Farm
For most, entrepreneurship is synonymous with “risk taking”. But there is a difference between making a wise business decision and betting it all on one roll of the dice. Successful entrepreneurs are calculated risk takers. They never jump right in and don’t leave too much to chance. They plan, analyse risks and anticipate mistakes.

5. Perseverance
“I am convinced that about half of what separates successful entrepreneurs from the non-successful ones is pure perseverance”, said Steve Jobs. Many entrepreneurs fail because they give up at the first sign of difficulty. But every success story encompasses endurance and perseverance.

6. Hang Out with Fellow Successful People
There’s a reason why highly successful business owners surround themselves with like-minded people. Even if they are the ones running the show, they know that the people they associate with, their mindset, attitude and lifestyle can influence their attitude and, eventually, their actions.

7. Don’t Do Everything By Yourself
If you want to grow as a business owner, you need to understand that you can’t do everything by yourself. As much as you would like to get your hands on to designing your company’s brochures, if you don’t know anything about graphic design, you should probably stick to what you know best.

8. Keep the Big Picture in Mind
The best entrepreneurs have a strategic mindset. They know their business and their industry well and ensure that every activity will drive results.

9. Be Consistent in Your Behaviour
Consistency is crucial to driving results from your employees and co-workers. In fact, a lot of problems arise when entrepreneurs and business owners are hectic and display unpredictable, irrational behaviour. There are special moments for pattern interrupts but as a rule of thumb, consistency is key.

10. Adaptability
The best Entrepreneurs are open to new ways of looking at things and solving problems. They are always looking for opportunities and know that by being flexible they will drive more results. Stiffness is the enemy of progress, so don’t be afraid to shift the paradigm once in a while.
Take a few minutes to reflect on your own approach to driving results.
