5 Effective Ways To Stop Your Unhealthy Eating Habits

By | Healthy Living | No Comments

Our diet plays a big role when it comes to our over-all general health. Because of this, it is important to be cautious on our eating habits. If you are really serious in getting back on track, it is vital that you are following healthy eating habits.

  1. Be more mindful of the plate that you use when eating

According to a study, the bigger the plate that you use, the more you will be tempted to eat more than what you should consume. Therefore, the trick is simple; if you want to condition your mind to eat less, then you should ditch your big plates for smaller ones.

  1. Gradually cut down on too much sugar and starch intake

Most of us enjoy eating foods that are high in sugar and starch. As we all know, they are usually not healthy. If you want to stop your over the top love affair with these types of food, then you should do it gradually. By tapering the amount that you eat, it will be easier for you to stop eventually. Learn to restructure your food habits and gradually shift to healthier routines.

  1.  Brush your teeth after dinner

Another unhealthy eating habit is too much nighttime munching. Studies have proven that it will be harder to lose weight if you always eat midnight snacks. To kick this habit off, it is advised to brush your teeth after you have eaten your dinner. By doing so, you will not be tempted to eat again. You should also condition your mind that your kitchen is “closed” for the night. Take note to wait at least 20 minutes before brushing to avoid damaging the enamel of your teeth.

  1. Do not feel guilty on your cheat day

Most of us have cheat days. During your designated day to cheat, you should not feel guilty. What you need is to have discipline to only eat until you are full. One thing to remind yourself is that cheat days do not give you the right to over indulge. The main key here is “moderation”.

  1. Always be ready with sugar-free mint gums

If you have a tendency to overeat, you can control yourself by chewing mint gums. The mint is recommended for this purpose because studies have proven that the strong scent can suppress a person’s appetite.

Always remember that with determination, you can achieve what you want especially if it will improve your overall health. Aside from the ways we have listed above, one great motivator is reminding yourself that if you want to live a longer and happier life, you will need to start eating and living healthy.

Top 10 Apps That Will Improve Your Health

By | HEALTH & NUTRITION, Technology | No Comments

By Jaimi Starr

It seems as if the jury is already out on whether or not new technology is behind the growing average Australian waistline. A recent study conducted by the Independent Research Organisation Milken Institute has confirmed there is a direct link between a country’s investment in technology and increasing obesity rates. In fact, spending 10% more on new or improved technology results in a 1.4 per cent increase in obesity rates per annum, according to the Milken Institute’s findings.

We currently find ourselves in the conundrum of the century: advancements in technology have increased productivity, improved living standards and enhanced economic growth, yet have resulted in less physical work, more ‘seated’ entertainment/socialisation and more processed foods. The technologies we have strived so hard to develop in search of economic prosperity have in turn caused greater economic strife than ever. Tools to improve quality of life are being abused to the point where obesity is now the world’s fifth biggest killer.

5 Ways to Make Living S.M.A.R.T. Your New Fit

By | Articles and Tips, HEALTH & NUTRITION, Healthy Living | No Comments

by: De’Anna Nuñez

The days of skipping meals, drinking our calories and eating only grapefruit for a week are long gone. As a society, our nutrition and fitness knowledge base has evolved. In this information age, we have every resource at the tip of our typing fingers. Yet, there are deceptions of ‘how to get skinny’ inundating our thinking on a daily basis. It’s time to rise above the marketing trash and get SMART.

To keep it simple, here are five very doable actions that you can pro-actively employ that will help you attain your weight loss goals.

Satisfaction: Know your point of satisfaction.

Next time you sit down to eat a meal; put a conscious effort into mentally reading your satisfaction meter. Understanding and knowing when you are full will shift your mood and your thinking. Your mind-body connection is a powerful relationship. In an article written by Harvard Medical School, communication happens between the gut and the brain when food enters the small intestine. A hormonal response is secreted and sends automatic messages through the vagus nerve to our brain. Be conscious of this amazing process happening within your body. Learn your point of satisfaction, and save yourself from over-stuffing by instilling patience. Trust in your physical aptitude doing its perfect work.

Movement: Move your body more and make activity a part of your life.

Moving is an important part of fully embracing the joys of life. A good ‘ole game of baseball in the park, and the joy of traveling the city streets on foot, can only be accomplished with an active mindset and body.  Physical activity snaps our hormone production into full gear, and instantly creates endorphins that make us feel good.  When you catch yourself feeling unmotivated, it is vital to your happiness that you mentally breakthrough your doldrums and tap into your bodies intelligence. Movement is the placebo pill to life balance, and is available as an energy life-force anytime you need it. Open your mind to a new menu of possibilities and move your body at each opportunity.

Awareness: Reframing your perspective on ‘Living Healthy’ through awareness.

Digging up and cultivating what lies beneath your surface is a healthy practice. Understanding your habits and behaviors will liberate you to embrace change and shift into a higher gear of living from your true potential. Deepak Chopra says, In any aspect of life, attention and awareness foster growth. Whenever you focus your attention on a subject or phenomenon, the object of your attention will grow stronger.” Imagine how your fitness level can greatly improve by incorporating this viewpoint into your daily life. When you crash into the pitfalls of eating unhealthy, ask yourself, “Why?” There is a greater purpose to be learned through failure, than just feeling bad about your mistake. More often than not, a deep-seeded behavior is merely peeking its head from the man-hole. If facing these inner demons seem scary, keep in mind, they are a lot more horrifying when they are kept in the dark. Shed some light, and you’ll see it’s only wearing a costume. Once you become aware of something, it changes its identity completely. Living a more fit life happens easily when you are congruent in all areas-mind, body and soul. The threshold to this greater understanding is through awareness.

Repetition:  Act like a success, and you become one.

Repetition is a cycle that your inner mind is accustomed to living out daily. Good habits beget good habits and result in a tangible outcome. Bad habits do the same. Do you use your will power to hold-back food cravings? Then disappointingly, you often fail by giving in to what feels like a Star-Wars-like force; powerless against the dark side? Good news is on the horizon! The same way you got into an overweight body, is how you’ll reduce to a leaner, more fit body.  Create a new normal to your daily repetitive tasks.  Buy different healthy foods at the grocery store this week. Expel the crap from your pantry and fridge. Schedule an activity that you’ve never done before. Hang out with a fit group of friends. Do things that make you say, “I don’t even recognize myself, who is this person?” Repeat those new actions daily. Repeat, repeat, repeat success and when the clock rings midnight, you won’t turn back into an old maid, you’ll find that you remain a princess. Act as if you are a success, and you become that in which you have focused on. Living fit and at your ideal weight will become just who you are.

Tenacity: Keep at it. Never, Never, Ever Give Up!

Resolve to the idea that eating healthy and exercising is simply the way you live your life. With that frame of mind, you will have every bit the momentum necessary to endure any hazard that crosses your path.  The daring and confident Amelia Erhardt once said, “The most difficult thing is the decision to act, the rest is merely tenacity. The fears are paper tigers. You can do anything you decide to do. You can act to change and control your life; and the procedure, the process is its own reward.” Every day you have an opportunity. When you get out of bed, place your feet firmly on the surface below you and choose your thoughts, your responses and your focus. Your smarts are your new skinny; no product, powder or pill can replace the belief you possess within yourself to reach your weight loss goals. Taking care of your health is not a temporary diet, it is a way of life. Never give up.

5 Tips To Become Successful In Life

By | Articles, Mindset | No Comments

The size of your success is measured by the strength of your desire; the size of your dream; and how you handle disappointments along the way.

-Robert Kiyosaki

We all want to be successful. All of us, no matter what situation we are in at the moment, we have dreams and aspirations. The question now is, what are the things that we need to do in order to be successful? Most of the time, it is easier said than done. Because of so many obstacles that life may throw at us, it may be very hard to move forward and keep reaching for the top.

If you are one of those who are looking for ways to conquer life and achieve all your dreams, then this article is for you. Today, we will be listing simple, but effective tips to help you on your quest to find success and happiness.

  1. Find your passion and start from there

In order to be successful, it is vital that you get to know first what your passion is. Ask yourself what you really want to do. Listen to what your heart and mind tell you. Once you have identified your passion, it will be easier for you to set the goals that will lead you to what you want to achieve. It is important to remember that without passion, you will just be “working” on your way up. On the other hand, if you are doing what you are passionate about, then you will be “happily working” on your way up to your success.

  1. Never underestimate the importance of setting your own goals

All successful people started with a goal in mind. Goals are considered your building blocks that will lead you to where you want to go. Start listing your goals and identify what specific actions you will take to reach all the things you have listed. Keep in mind that the goals are useless without action.

  1. Do not forget to invest on yourself

If you want to be successful, you should realize that investing in yourself should be a top priority. One of the most important things that you need to invest in is education. It is important to never stop learning even after you have graduated from school. For example, you can always learn a new hobby like baking or cooking. This will depend on your preferences and what you really enjoy.

  1. Never give up no matter how hard life is

A quitter will never win. This is a great lesson that you should always remember. If you are serious on succeeding, giving up should never be an option. What’s more important is your willingness and determination to get up and continue facing all the challenges.

  1. Look at life positively

It is very easy to be overpowered by a negative mindset. It is therefore important to always stay positive. Successful people are positive thinkers. They do not dwell on negativities, instead, they work on keeping a positive mindset no matter how much difficult life is.

Success, no matter how you define it, is possible as long as you have enough patience, determination, and perseverance. Use the tips listed above to help you become who you want to be. Just do not forget to look back and give back. Again, you can achieve anything, so you should believe that you can. You just need to learn to believe and you’re halfway there.
